FPP Haircut Testing & Hub World

Hello everyone,

Hair Testing Begins

We’ve reached a significant stage in the development of the FPP model, marking a major step forward as we refine one of the game's most visually impactful elements, the hair. Everything is coming together, though some final adjustments are still needed. Measure twice, cut once—know what I mean? We’re eager to show you the results soon.

Advancing the Open World Area

Our open world area continues to evolve with several key updates:

  • Hub World Area Access: The main menu has been updated to grant access to the hub world area, allowing for a richer exploration experience.
  • 3D PBR Rendering and Lighting: We’ve implemented proper 3D Physically Based Rendering (PBR) and lighting in the overworld. This upgrade allows the use of PBR materials, significantly enhancing the visual quality.
  • Passage of Time System: A dynamic time system has been introduced, impacting NPC schedules, building access, looting outcomes, and lighting conditions. This system can be fine-tuned to either progress continuously or trigger based on player actions.



Bug Fixes and Graphics Improvements

We’ve tackled a series of minor bugs and made improvements to the graphics and rendering within the hub world for a smoother and more visually appealing experience.

Looking Ahead

We’ve made strides in the artistic direction of our level design even since writing this post;

  • Scene Development: We’ve shared a sneak peek of the starting area and tavern, in the next update we raise the bar once more into a more organic town than simple blockouts.
  • Artistic Direction: We’re blending Western and Eastern architectural styles and experimenting with stacking geometries to create more abstract housing design.

Our next steps include connecting the hub world to the proper roam menu and phasing out the previous, buggy blocked out hub world scene. We’ll also continue refining our building designs and exploring new creative possibilities.
