SOULCOOM™ 0.7.9b

Devlog Update: Visual Enhancements and Shader Development

Hello everyone, we recently released the devlogs for SOULCOOM™ 0.7.10 but had to revert to 0.7.9a due to stability issues. A visual breakthrough with the hub world using a URP shader caused instability and long load times, so we had to roll it back. It’s a setback, but we’re continuing to move forward.

Render Pipeline Upgrade and Reversion This week, we upgraded to Unity’s Universal Render Pipeline (URP) to improve lighting and shadows, resulting in a significant boost in visual quality. However, due to compatibility issues and performance constraints, we reverted to the built-in pipeline.

Asset Integration and Environmental Improvements We integrated new low poly fauna assets, which added a fantasy aesthetic to the town. The lighting system received major adjustments, particularly during night-time, enhancing the overall atmosphere.

Custom Shader Development In response to the challenges with URP, we began developing a custom swaying lit grass shader to work within the built-in renderer. This will allow us to maintain high-quality visuals without compromising performance.

Ongoing Challenges We encountered some compatibility issues with new tree textures and lighting inconsistencies across assets. These are being addressed as we continue refining the town’s design and overall visual presentation.

Next Steps The FPP face is going through a final checklist as we finalize the design just before we bring it into the game. We will continue refining the hub world, improving the environment's cohesiveness, and integrating additional features like animated NPCs and improved lighting.
